The Catalyst Fund venture builders embed themselves in the startups to solve their most urgent problems in customer research, software development, product management, and operations. We conduct an in-depth diagnostic once a startup is selected to tailor a support package that addresses startups’ internal challenges in designing value propositions, filling talent and data gaps, and technology expertise to move them to product market fit. Our technical support is provided by a team of BFA experts, who have expertise and experience in both fintech and emerging markets.
In many sectors, startups experience a “valley of death” in which they go bankrupt before they can sufficiently refine their product and generate traction with customers. What they need is patient capital to be able to pilot and iterate their product. Unfortunately, most investors are looking for growth and are not prepared to fund these early product development stages. To bridge the valley of death, we offer quick and flexible innovation grants up to US $100,000 to help startups test and iterate their solutions.
Catalyst Fund’s unique sourcing and support models puts investors at the center selecting, advising, and mentoring startups. We do not make calls for applications, host challenge competitions, or utilize other open-source methodologies to solicit applications. Instead, startups are sourced through a group of investors, the members of our Investors Advisory Committee (IAC), who also become mentors to the startups to ensure they develop adequate, compelling proof points to attract follow on capital. Startups are also matched with members of the Circle of Investors to increase their chances of receiving investment after the program. To date, startups have raised on average 13x the amount they received through Catalyst Fund’s support.
